MACON, G.A. – The Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announce their training camp roster for the 2021-22 season. A total of 23 players – five defensemen, fifteen forwards, and three goaltenders – are on the current camp roster. This roster is due to be pared down to nineteen players next Wednesday, October 20 after the first weekend of the season.
Training camp will consist of dryland training and workouts, along with on-ice sessions. There will be “two-a-day” sessions each day from October 9th to October 13th. The team will depart after training camp for Knoxville, TN to open the SPHL season against the Ice Bears on Friday October 15th. Training camp will be closed to the public except for Tuesday October 12th and Wednesday October 13th from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. both days. Fans who wish to attend should check in with the Mayhem front office to be granted access.
“We’ve got a great mix of players on the roster,” said Head Coach Zac Desjardins. “Since the craziness of the pandemic, many guys haven’t been able to play so they’re hungry to get out there. Everyone has a shot to make the team so I’m expecting them to come everyday looking to get better and battle for their spot. I expect training camp to move fast as we are a brand-new team. We have new players, a new coach, and a new system so it is a blank slate. Come Saturday, it’ll be time to go work our butts off and see where that takes us.”
The following chart contains a list of the 23 players currently in training camp with position, height, weight, birth date, and hometown.
Just three weeks remain until the Mayhem’s home opener against the Fayetteville Marksmen on Friday, October 29th, with puck drop scheduled for 7:35 PM EST.
