Macon, GA – The Mayhem had not beaten Fayetteville since March 2, 2019. That’s three years and two days, which was very fitting in a 3-2 Macon win. The Hussey brothers helped end the drought along with a third-period goal by Scott Coash in the victory. The Marksmen had a perfect 11-0 record this season against Macon.
The Mayhem came out flying with aggressive play on both ends of the ice. It paid off as Devin Brink (10) scored just 1:50 into the first to give the Mayhem a 1-0 lead courtesy of a beautiful back door wraparound past Brent Moran.
The score stayed that way into the break. Early in the second, the Marksmen would tie it on a Taylor Best (11) goal to make it 1-1. A back and forth second saw Macon regain the lead when Brendan Hussey (6) backed his big brother between the pipes and gave his team a 2-1 lead. It was short-lived as not even three minutes later Fayetteville tied it again as Drake Glover (13) made it 2-2.
So, the game when into the final frame even. It was time for heroics by Macon’s team leader in goals, Scott Coash (13), who gave them a lead they would not relinquish. Coash’s tally was the winning goal that ended the drought. After stopping 23 of 25 shots, Greg Hussey would notch his second win at the SPHL level.
