Birmingham's Blue Christmas Came Early, Mayhem Win 4-2

The Macon Mayhem send their fans home to have a happy Christmas by defeating rival Birmingham Bulls 4-2. Both teams hit the ice skating hard and fast, creating a dizzying back-and-forth through the first few minutes. The Mayhem struck first in what would turn out to be a rather heated matchup. Kyle Soper was the man to do it, giving Macon the advantage midway through the period. The lead didn’t last for long as two quick goals put the Mayhem down two heading into the second period. The second period turned into a defensive affair with neither team giving an inch. The Mayhem found life after a solid penalty kill (one of their five on the evening) sprung Matt Stoia out of the box and onto the score sheet as he knotted up the game at two goals apiece. Not even a minute later Devin Brink joined the fun and found mesh to give the Mayhem their first lead since the 16-minute mark of the first. In the third period, the Mayhem completely shut down the offense of the Bulls. Without their top scorers of Carson Rose and Michael Gillespie, Birmingham struggled to get anything going through the center of the ice and were sent back every time they tried to enter the Macon zone. The Bulls had a few moments of life in the 3rd but were shut out by Cam Gray on his way to his first career professional will. Aaron Aragon threw one in the empty net to seal the game and get Caleb Cameron a point in his 200th regular season game in a Mayhem uniform, more than any other player in franchise history. The Mayhem will be back in the Macon Coliseum for Healthcare Heroes night on December 30th, followed by family friendly New Year’s Eve fun on the 31st. Tickets and more information are available at
