Mayhem Lose 8-2 and Split Weekend Series in Evansville

Mayhem fall to the Thunderbolts 8-2 on their second night in Evansville.

The Mayhem opened this weekend's finale in Evansville where they left off last night with a Rhett Kingston goal 20 seconds into the contest. The Kingston goal would be the lone highlight for the Mayhem in the period as the Thunderbolts tied it up on a 5-on-3 power play. Penalties filled the scoresheet on both sides as 5-a-side hockey was hard to find in the first 20 minutes. Evansville tacked on another power-play goal as well as two even-strength tallies to take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.

Macon sent Jeremie Forget out to relieve Cody Karpinski between the pipes to start the second and that slowed down the Bolts for a bit. The Mayhem continued to pepper Evansville goalie Zane Steeves who fought off every shot in the period on his way to a 40+ save performance. The Thunderbolts found their way past the Macon backup twice in the second to widen the margin to a 6-1 lead going into the third.

The Thunderbolts entered the third-period content with killing off the rest of the clock but giving up is not in the fabric of this Mayhem squad. More pressure in the Evansville end resulted in Aaron Aragon scoring his second in two nights and ending the period-and-a-half scoring drought for the Mayhem. Macon kept up the pace but Steeves was on another planet, snuffing out every good scoring chance the Mayhem had. The Thunderbolts put two more goals on the scoresheet as the game wound down and sent the Mayhem back to Macon with an 8-2 loss. The Mayhem hit the road again next weekend before returning to the Macon Coliseum next Sunday for Mac’s Birthday. The beloved Macon mascot is treating all fans to $5 tickets!
