No Luck O' The Irish for The Mayhem, 4-2 Loss to the Havoc

Mayhem drop their weekend opener to the Huntsville Havoc 4-2.

This contest started with a Mayhem team that looked slightly timid through their first couple shifts. The combination of new faces by way of the collegiate ranks and ECHL call-ups and returners had the team looking foreign to the casual fan. As they were able to settle in and adjust to their new linemates, the ice started opening a bit for both sides. Each team had their chances but it was the Havoc that struck first when Robbie Fisher banged home a rebound for the only goal of the 1st period.

The Mayhem got down to business in the 2nd, tightening up the defense while move the puck with efficiency through the neutral zone. They had the momentum until a rush the opposite way gave Fisher his second goal of the night and the Havoc a two-goal lead. That lead was soon cut back down to one when Tommy Munichiello scored the first of the night for the Mayhem and set them up in perfect position for a 3rd period comeback.

That comeback became harder to achieve less than two minutes into the final frame when Gavin Holland scored to reestablish the Huntsville two-goal advantage. The Mayhem appeared to cut back into the Havoc lead when Rhett Kingston let a shot rip from the blue line that popped Sammy Bernard’s bottle off the top of the Huntsville net before the goal was ultimately ruled offside. With the Mayhem deflated following that emotional “180”, Jamie Bucell gave the Havoc the biggest lead of the night. Jesse Anderson brought the Mayhem back to within two but that’s all the Mayhem could manage, falling 4-2.

The Mayhem will have another crack at the Havoc tomorrow night 6:30 as they host the rematch on Muscogee-Creek Nation night. More information and tickets can be found at
